ASHEBORO — God is bigger than any problem we have.
That was the central message of Rebekah Gregory, guest speaker at the 23rd Annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast Thursday at AVS Banquet Centre. She is one of 17 amputees who lost limbs as a result of the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15, 2013. Gregory lost her left leg after 18 months of trying to keep it.She captivated the capacity crowd at the Prayer Breakfast with her humor and the forthright narrative of her experience since the bombing.
“People say to me, ‘You’re that bombing girl, right?’ ”It was on a whim that she was in Boston that day, Gregory said. “I was not running. I had never run in my life. I was on the sideline eating a chocolate-covered pretzel wondering why anyone would be crazy enough to sign up to run 26 miles.”It was just three days after her 26th birthday and she had brought her 5-year-old son Noah with her. She said they struggled to get close to the finish line, where they stood watching runners going by. CLICK FOR MORE
